Strange Alchemy – The Glass Worlds of Tom Moore & Nick Mount at Sydney Contemporary, Booth E04, 10-14 September, Carriageworks, Sydney.
Tom Moore transforms his booth into a surreal landscape alive with fantastical glass creatures. Â Immersive and imaginative, his installation draws viewers into a vibrant world of storytelling and visual delight.
At Sydney Contemporary he will be debuting 4 limited edition prints, one of which, Manic City is pictured above.  Tom states, ‘I am particularly excited to show the printed images alongside the photographed objects; this enables them to be seen in conversation with each other and within their unnatural habitats.  Playing with Photoshop allows the introduction of uncanny digital interventions such as multiple copies and transformations of scale and hue.  Applying this treatment to object so inseparably imbedded in ancient processes is intentionally confusing.  At first glance, Manic City may look like another delicious nightmare plopped out by artificial intelligence, however all these things are real-artifice, and the compositing is ‘hand-mande’.
These constructed images spur me to wonder about the role of contemporary craft skills in an art world. Â I think they are hilarious, exciting and tremendously satisfying.’
Alongside the prints will be nineteen glass creatures, seventeen of which are being shown for the first time. Â They aim, as usual, to defy gravity and to melt the coldest heart.
Anna Grigson, Director of SABBIA remarks, ‘glass remains a medium of endless inspiration – celebrated for its natural beauty and the extraordinary skill it demands. Â These exhibitions offer an intimate glimpse into the creative realms of two masterful artists, revealing how each continues to expand the possibilities of their craft in bold and beautiful ways.’
Tom and Nick will be taking part in two talks over the course of the Fair.
Wednesday 10 September (VIP Collector Preview), 5-6pm, Booth E04
