Masterworks 40 Years- 40 Things and 40 pins

Tom first showed in Aotearoa New Zealand in 2008 with Autoganic:Auckland and we had a great time building a city, making a road and installing glass at Masterworks and are very happy to be in their 40th anniversary exhibition and celebrating with them.

 

It’s amazing to reach such a milestone and what a cool celebration they’ve planned!  As well as ceramics, glass, bronze and textile works by 40 foundational and more recent artists, two pins apiece have been commissioned from 20 jewellery artists for the show.

Tom writes: I like to show a couple of works in conversation otherwise they seem kind of lonely.  The reason for this is that I don’t really think of them as things at all.  

I work within ancient craft traditions based around glass object-making but my aim is to imbue the glass with a relatable character and to suggest subjectivity and agency.  Sprouting Bounty and Marsupial Dryad are creatures based on hybrid animal forms that encompass multiple characters.

 

This is all to apologise that I may have messed-up the numbers in the show 40 Years:40 Things.  Nevertheless I am delighted that SB and MD are able to attend the party for Masterworks 40th Anniversary.

 

 

Masterworks Gallery have recently moved to: Suite 4, 2 Canada Street, Auckland CBD, and we wish them the best for the next decade and look forward to the 50th celebrations!

 

Exhibition is open 8 August and runs until 3 October with the gallery open Wed-Sat 10am-4pm.
